25 April: Unschooling on the Radio (local and online)!

From an E-mail.

I wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow Unschooling will be the topic on a local Maine radio station/Cable access public channel 2 (older shows on channel 4). I've done some research on the station and have been listening over the last few weeks. Sounds like a great format to discuss unschooling in a positive light.

I will be their guest for the unschooling topic. The timing is great for the convention so I plan to plug the 2006 ones and a few books new and old :).

As with anything new ... I am a bit nervous (turns out it will also be on cable access) though see this as a great opportunity to have unschooling opened up more in Maine and I am looking forward to it.

I enjoy discussing/supporting unschooling full circle on Unschooling Maine and also enjoy the families who come back and say something we discussed helped them think clearer or react less. For those who do not know, Unschooling Maine has an active, unschool specific yahoo group with over 70 members and has been up since 2003. The site http://unschoolingmaine.com/ and/or http://southernmaineunschoolers.com is an extension of the list and a start to a larger goal.

Our family includes four children 2-14 years of age. We have experienced unschooling from both perspectives (always unschooled/former student) and a range of ages. I will be setting up a page tonight on the site of our family so those who have just radio access (or do not belong to the list) can better relate to the discussion if I do mention our children.

You can listen to the station live by going to http://wmpg.org/ and clicking the links to the right upper side of the page. The show starts at 1pm EST. As for cable access, it will air on Channel 2 in Maine on the weekend. Saturday 1:30am, 2:30pm and 7:30pm & Sunday 10:30, 3:30 and 11:30pm. I don't know about live; depending on your town's buy-in, you may or may not get the station. I am going to try to get a copy so I can use it on http://unschoolingmaine.com/

Wish me clear thoughts!
